PORG attempts to collect data in a way that approximates a random sample. Students are selected to complete the poll in a systematic manner as they walked by various locations around campus. Each tenth student who passes the table is approached and asked to indicate their preferences on a sheet of paper. They are then instructed to insert the slip of paper into a box without showing it to the administrators of the poll.
Polls are not conducted during busy class changes as to ensure that response rates remain high. As part of our mission, we continuously re-evaluate our methodology to ensure it produces an accurate sample.
